| Hurlburt Field, Florida is
the home of the USAF 1st Special Operations Wing, operating
the AC-130H and AC-130U Gunships, the CV-22B Osprey,
MC-130 Combat Talons, Combat Spears and Combat Shadows,
as well as - in the 6th Special Operations Squadron
- a bunch of rather unexpected foreign equipment like
Mi-17 Helicopters. At the tip of current assymetric
warfare in Iraq and Afghanistan, these "Air Commandos"
are responsible for supporting and conducting themself
any kind of Special Operations mission possible. I was
very fortunate to be there in August 2008, just as the
MH-53 Pave Low retired and the Ospreys took over. |
